Man arrested for murder of shop owner

Community assault suspect

A 21-year-old man is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court at the end of July, for the murder of an Ethiopian business owner, in Daveyton.

The shop owner, who was in his 40s, was stabbed several times in the upper body at his business on Hurutse Street.

Daveyton SAPS media liaison officer Capt Alfred Nakana said two men entered the shop and demanded money from the owner who, instead, put up a fight.

Community members heard the screams resulting from the attack, chased after the suspects and assaulted one of them, before he was arrested, with the presumed murder weapon.

The second suspect managed to flee the scene.

A murder case has been opened and anyone with information on the missing suspect’s whereabouts can contact Nakana on 079 695 1401.
