Victim escapes to press panic button

The restaurant owners and patrons of Cafe I’Thai were locked in the bathroom of the establishment during a robbery on Thursday, June 26.Benoni SAPS media liaison officer Lieut Nomsa Sekele said the incident occurred at 7pm, at the Western Extension eatery.

”The complainant was in the cafe and suddenly saw a man point a gun at his wife,” said Sekele.

”Then two more men entered and also pointed a gun at him and told everyone to lie on the floor.”

The three robbers took cash and seven cellphones from the customers.

The people in the restaurant were locked in the bathroom after the seven men took their possessions.

A security company responded to the crime after one of the victims kicked down the bathroom door to press the panic button.

Sekele said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
