Oasis, in the Oakfields Shopping Centre, is quite literally the local watering hole; a pillar of the community, where people from all walks of life come together.

Here, refreshments and rejuvenation aren’t the only things on offer, but it is a place where friends and neighbours meet and the sound of water-cooler chatter fills the air.

These principles of community are borne out by the business philosophy of a triple bottom line, or the three Ps: People, Profit and Planet.

Their success isn’t merely measured in financial terms (Fair Profit), but also by what they do to uplift the community and conserve and improve the environment. The Oasis branch in Oakfields was opened in 2008 and has six employees.

They render services to schools, sport venues, homes, businesses and even make deliveries.

Their main focus at Oasis is refilling, where people bring their bottles to be refilled and have access to a safe and healthy alternative drinking water they can afford.

They provide good, clean, pure water, where health is not a risk.

With well over 150 stores in operation today, and refills from as little as R1 per litre, Oasis is well on It’s way to achieving its lofty goals.

Not only do they focus on water, but also sell 100 per cent fruit juice, which is mixed in the shop, with a variety of 11 flavours offered.

“We are a family; besides clients coming for refills, we have time to chat and gossip there and then,” said Sam Cawood, owner of the branch.

New offerings to the store consists of nuts, coffee and hot chocolate, which will be available at the end of June.

“I’ve grown personally, interacting with the public gives me more joy and pleasure than just providing water,” said Cawood.

The store is open Mondays to Fridays, 9am till 5.30pm, and on Saturdays, 8.30am till 1pm.
