People's negligence leads to crime

Police are warning people to keep valuables out of sight when visiting the Daveyton Mall.

This follows an increase in theft out of motor vehicles, which has been on the rise since last month.

Daveyton SAPS media liaison officer Capt Alfred Nakana said opportunistic criminals are preying on the negligence of people who leave valuables in full view of passersby.

The thefts are particularly prevalent during rush hours.

The mall’s portfolio director, Anton Prinsloo, said the increase in thefts may be attributed to the illegal hawkers and car washers in the area.

He has reported their presence to the SAPS and council, but no action has been taken.
