Family praises Impala Park shooting victim

He will be remembered as having a 'huge heart'

The family of murder victim Shaun Rusch (49) described him as a generous individual who had a ”huge heart”, days after he was shot dead in Impala Park.

”With his generosity and huge heart, there was not a single family member who was untouched by his magnanimous heart,” said his brother-in-law, Michael Stewart.

”Shaun was always there for his family and we are struggling to understand how we will continue without his love, strength and support.

”Shaun has left a huge hole in our lives and hearts and now that Angela is left behind, the magnitude of his love for Angela and his children looms large.”

Rusch, who lived in Cloverdene, was shot at the house of his business partner and close friend, Nico Benn, on Tuesday, June 10.

”At around 11.30am the helper [at the Impala Park home] noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle parked directly opposite the gate,” said Gauteng SAPS provincial spokesperson Capt Tsekiso Mofokeng.

”She then called the owner, who was at work at the time.”

Mofokeng said the home owner arrived at the house with Rusch and saw a white Audi with two occupants.

”As the owner and his colleague got out of the car to investigate, the two guys fired shots at them,” said Mofokeng.

Rusch was pronounced dead on scene.

Stewart said on Friday that Benn had been released from hospital, where he was admitted after he was shot, too.

Rusch is survived by his wife, Angela, daughter Amber-shay (18) and son Keenan (15).

Stewart said Shaun was a senior member of the Maranatha Community and was the embodiment of Christian values.

”Shaun was always there to help any community members in their time of need,” he added.

Rusch co-owned N and S Bodyworks in the Benoni CBD.

Anyone who might have witnessed the shooting is urged to contact the Boksburg North Police Station on 011 898 3000.

The case is still being investigated and cases of murder and attempted murder were opened.
