Stathacopouloses to serve Rotary International again

Alongside Annie Steijn, who will take office as District Governor (DG) of Rotary International District 9400 as of July, a member of the Rotary Club of Benoni, Elaine Stathacopoulos, will be her District Governor Ann (DGA) for the 2014/2015 Rotary year.

There are 35 Rotary Anns Clubs in the district.

Elaine will be responsible for motivating and encouraging the Anns clubs to get involved in projects that will comply with the Rotary International theme of “Light up Rotary”.

“To be the District Governor Ann is an honour and privilege,” she said about her title.

It will be her second term in office as DGA, after the Rotary year 2003/2004.

Districts 9300 and 9250 recently amalgamated, becoming District 9400.

One of Elaine’s goals includes asking the clubs to participate in a project to raise funds to purchase solar lamps for disadvantaged communities.

“The solar lamps are safe and there is no maintenance cost,” she said.

Another is to recruit new members and retaining existing ones.

“The most exciting part about my role is meeting with wonderful people who complete fantastic projects to make a difference to the communities they serve,” she said.

“The expanded district allows one to meet a diversified group, in culture, religion and race.

“The enthusiasm generated by these ladies is infectious and motivating.”

Elaine’s husband and former District Governor, Greg, will be the District Governor’s Assistant Governor (Aide) for this year, which entails assisting Steijn and mentoring her in her role to motivate the 86 Rotary clubs in the district.

Part of the aide’s responsibility is administrative, but it is mainly as a sounding board for the DG.

The experience of having been in the chair previously is invaluable to the incoming DG.
