Shocking lack of service from Ekurhuleni Water and e-Siyakhokha website

Nick Ivanovic writes by email:

I have experienced a total disregard of complaints regarding burst water pipes outside and inside my home.

On January 1, the main water pipe outside my property burst for the second time in three years.

A complaint was lodged and, within 48 hours, a crew arrived to repair the pipe.

The meter and the shut off valve were, however, removed and not replaced; the hole dug up for the repair was large enough for a man to fall into and was left open, with some danger tape wrapped around the fence to warn passers-by.

This soon blew away and the hole remained; the postman refused to put post in my mailbox because of the danger of falling in.

I complained about this problem on the website and got an email response forwarded to a third party, to look into the matter.

Nothing happened for three months and I closed up the hole.

Two weeks after that I again emailed e-Siyakhokha, and lodged a complaint with the water services.

Again emails were sent out with no solution to the problem.

Last week (five months later) a pipe burst in my home and the plumber could not repair it because there is no shut off valve to stop the leak.

I again lodged a complaint with the water services and, four days later, there is still no action or response from them as to when the water will be shut off.

The plumber cannot carry out his work and my property is being damaged as a result of the water leak.

My municipal account is in order.
