Bunny Park gets a make-over

Renovations worth R1 000 000 will soon be visible at the Bunny Park.

This includes the already-visible new, enclosed area in the middle of the park for the bunnies.

Shelters for cattle, sheep and goats are being built and the pigs’ shelters are being upgraded.

Irrigation will also being installed around the park and the the borehole is being upgraded.

New furniture will be available to visitors to enhance picnic experiences at the park.

Other changes include the renovation of the bridge and rubber surfaces under the playground.

The five concrete circles for the bunnies will be repaired as well.

Some of the bunnies will be kept in the enclosed area, to make them more visible to the public.

Gideon Strydom, caretaker at the Bunny Park, said this has also been done to protect the weaker bunnies from visitors who try to chase them.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe confirmed that the project will be completed by June 30.

The municipality’s aim with the new renovations is to upgrade animal facilities that have been neglected and to establish gracing fields.

The hope is also to attract more visitors to the Bunny Park.

“All is part of a greater master plan,” said Gadebe.

More upgrading will take place in future phases.

Strydom said plans for more grass and flowers to be planted are the next step.

“In the next few months we will also repair the braais,” he added.

The Bunny Park is open daily, except for Christian public holidays.
