An association for the retired introduced

South African Association of Retired Persons (SAARP), an organisation for persons 50 years and older, based in Cape Town, has announced the opening of a new club on the East Rand.

The SAARP Lakefield Club was formed primarily to serve Benoni, Boksburg and Kempton Park, but all are welcome to join.

The club will hold its social meetings on the first Wednesday of each month, and the committee has planned an interesting and varied programme of socials and events.

Founder member Pam Harvey said she hopes more people will be inspired to start clubs, as there are only four in the most populated province in South Africa (Gauteng), compared to over 80 in the Cape.

“Forming a group offers people new interests and companionship,” said Harvey.

“Let us show the Capetonians that retired people are alive and well and living in Gauteng.”
