Elderly couple tied up at retirement village

An elderly couple's apartment, on the Village Walk Retirement Estate, was ransacked by three men in the early hours of this morning.

The couple was also tied up.

Benoni police spokesman, Lieut Nomsa Sekele, said the couple was awakened at around 3am, by three men who were flashing a torch light in their eyes.

“They told the couple to keep quite and then tied them up,” she added.

The men, who were armed with knives, took the couple’s two Blackberry cellphones, an undisclosed amount of cash and jewellery.

Sekele said the robbers gained entry by cutting the village’s electric fence and breaking the apartment’s security door.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

Police are investigating.

Efforts to reach the Village Walk Retirement Estate for comment were unsuccessful, as their phone rang unanswered.
