A home at last for elderly man

One of the oldest residents of Etwatwa extension nine, Harry Khuduge (94), was handed a house by the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) on April 29.

Khuduge has four children and lives with his only daughter, Nomasonto Regina Mabaso, who is taking care of him.

The 94-year-old Khuduge, together with his daughter, work in their makeshift garden filled with spinach, avocados and other vegetables which sustain them.

NHBRC raised funds by hosting two golf days last year in which they were able to build a safe and secure home.

Ward 65 Clr Lucky Mabaso found that Khuduge was not registered for a new home, but found assistance from Department of Housing.

The NHBRC is a regulatory body for building homes that ensures the delivery of sustainable, quality homes and protecting owners.

Last year, instead of funding a year-end function for its employees, the NHBRC decided instead to contribute to the building of innovative building technology homes.

Advocate Brenda Madumise the council chairperson of NHBRC, presented Khuduge with a resident enrollment certificate.

“Your dignity, we have restored it by providing you with a home for you, and your family,” said Madumise.

Not only is Khuduge a stalwart of ANC, but the street in which he lives in is named after him.

“I am so happy, because we have been struggling for so long,” said Nomasonto.
