Man shot in car in Western Extension

A Nigerian national (39) was shot dead in a vehicle in Western Extension this morning (May 2).

The incident took place on Wooton Avenue, about 30m from the four-way stop street on Turvey Street.

Benoni SAPS media liaison officer Lieut Nomsa Sekele said a witness told police that two men were in the vehicle with the deceased, moments before the shooting.

Sekele said a Toyota Corolla with three occupants was parked in the same area where the incident took place.

After a while the car left.

The witness told police a white Golf returned to the spot with the same three occupants.

”The one who sat in the back (of the Golf) got out and walked on foot down the road,” said Sekele.

”Before he reached the stop street he (the neighbour) heard a gun shot.”

ER24 JHB East spokesperson Liam Hardy said paramedics arrived on scene and found the man in the car.

Hardy said paramedics worked for about 25 minutes to resuscitate the man, but could not save his life.

He was declared dead on scene.

Sekele said the motive for the crime is unknown.

No arrests have been made.

A case of murder was opened at the Benoni Police Station.
