Pioneers need members

With only 20 members remaining, the Benoni Pioneers Association is looking for new members to join their ranks.

The 80-year-old association’s dwindling numbers were discussed at the their AGM, at the Old People’s Home, on Wednesday, April 23.

Benoni Pioneers Association president Sam Grolman said the decline in members is the result of the death of existing members and members moving out of Benoni to live with family.

He said an additional 10 to 20 members will make a big difference to the functionality of the Pioneers.

The social club meets approximately four times a year.

There are often guest speakers at the meetings.

People who would like to become a member of the association need to reside in Benoni and have live in the town for at least 30 years.

Anyone who would like to join may contact the association’s secretary, Brenda McDonald, on 073 423 3280.
