Crossbow shooting: man arrested

A man is in custody after a woman was shot dead by a crossbow in the Benoni CBD last night (April 16).

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the crime, which took place at Cirema Court, on the corner of Bunyan Street and Bedford Avenue.

”It is alleged that at 8.20pm the complainant heard a crossbow being cocked,” said SAPS Gauteng spokesperson Lieut Col Katlego Mogale.

”He went to check what was going on and as he entered the unit he found the suspect carrying the crossbow.

”He ventured into the bedroom he saw the deceased lying on the floor.”

Mogale said the complainant was threatened by the suspect.

The man got away and alerted police.

When police arrived, the 39-year-old victim was found lying in a pool of blood with a wound to the upper body.

She was certified dead on scene by paramedics.

The suspect will appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court on a charge of murder, soon.

The motive for the crime is not yet known.
