Margaret Hirsch inspires East Rand Business Women

Margaret Hirsch, chief operations officer for Hirsch's and Entrepreneurial Business Woman of the Year Award winner of 2012, was the guest speaker at the East Rand Business Women's monthly meeting, on March 12, at the Birchwood Hotel.

Margaret, who co-founded Hirsch’s with her husband, Allan, 33 years ago, was described by members of the association as “dynamic and inspirational”.

She told stories of how she discovered at a young age that all one needs to achieve success are your hands and brain.

She said she bought her first pair of shoes at the age of 12, with money she earned by working at a hair salon.

She really appreciated and was very proud of her purchase, and wore the shoes until she was 15 years old.

Margaret does not feel uncomfortable mentioning the word “money”, and firmly believes in talking about wealth openly.

She works with a vision to empower others, especially women, to encourage them to make more money.

She believes God wants people to have a lot, but that we settle for less, and encouraged guests to see that there is more out there.

“There is a seed of greatness in each of us, but we have to nurture it,” she said.

She told the women about her fight up the ladder of success and emphasised that nothing comes easily, but she believes that “if you can look up, you can get up and carry on going”.

She encouraged women to set goals and create vision boards to make those goals reality.

Margaret is also passionate about giving back and works with many communities in many different ways.

She told the women about one of her major passions, which is empowering schoolgirls with dignity packs, to enable them to never miss school days due to life’s cycles.

She concluded by saying: “There is so much potential and wealth in South Africa and we need to work to our full potential to let it all out. ”

The East Rand Business Women donated stationery to the Birchwood Hotel Ukajede Project, in appreciation of the sponsorship they receive from them.

Funds were also donated to the dignity programme, Subzpads, about which Margaret is passionate.
