Thugs target two schools in one night

Two local schools, Hoërskool Brandwag and Brentwood Park Primary School, suffered break-ins on the night of March 17.

At Brandwag the thugs made way with six data projectors and a DVD player after gaining entry by forcing open the security door.

Brandwag school principal James Wright confirmed the incident.

Asked if he thought his school is being targeted as computers were previously stolen from the school after it was broken into, Wright said the thugs are targeting all schools and warned them to be careful.

At Brentwood Park Primary there was only an attempted burglary.

Principal Frans Lodz said it was a minor incident and that nothing was taken.

“They only forced the door open,” said Lodz.

Benoni police spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele said both schools have opened cases.

“We think the intruders at Brentwood Primary might have been disturbed before they stole anything,” said Sekele..

She said no one has been arrested and that the police are investigating.
