Exit into Main Reef a nightmare

Exiting Apex into Main Reef Road, towards Brakpan, is an absolute nightmare in traffic, especially when it's raining.

Resident Deon Theunissen, who uses the road regularly, said that installing a traffic light there will improve traffic flow.

Theunissen added that, normally, there is a traffic officer directing traffic when the whether is fine, during peak hour, between 4.30pm and 5.15pm.

“We are grateful for this person, otherwise every day would be horrific,” he said.

But Theunissen asked if it is possible that council could do a survey and determine the necessity of erecting a traffic light at this intersection

This, Theunissen said, will improve traffic flow, get people less stressed up and, more importantly, will reduce the risk of taking chances and help to avoid accidents.

The EMPD said both its precinct commander and the metro’s roads and city engineers departments have been made aware of the concern raised regarding the said intersection.

EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago said that the precinct commander, on a daily basis, does his utmost in allocating officers to crucial intersections for ease of traffic flow, personnel permitting.

As per the complainant’s request, Kgasago said the EMPD will, indeed, conduct a survey and submit its recommendations to roads engineers and electricity departments, as erecting traffic lights is not the competency of EMPD.

“The outcome of the aforementioned processes will be communicated to your publication as soon as they are completed,” he added.
