Faulty water pipe causes disturbance

A man reported a burst main water pipe running in front of his property, in Farrarmere, to the Ekurhuleni Metro.

He explained to the City Times that Ekurhuleni employees often come to work on this pipe, but that it bursts two to three times a year, and did so again in December.

He added that the pipe is rusted and frail and breaks when touched, and that the surrounding ground is always messy and wet.

For the last two to three years he has has been appealing to the metro to rep, lace this pipe, and he claimed to have spoken to everyone from Benoni’s water department, but said it was a futile effort as he had received no assistance at all.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson Themba Gadebe said: “The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused by the water pipe situation.”

He added that the pipe is continuously fixed, so that the consumers can have a continuous water supply, while the department responsible makes budgetary plans to replace it.

“The concern has been noted, it will be enlisted on the planned work,” said Gadebe.

Residents with similar problems are urged to call 011 999 7312/7351/6901 from 7am to 3.30pm on Mondays to Fridays, or the 24-hour municipal call centre on 086 054 3000.
