Sponsors needed for peace poster contest

The Lions have asked generous individuals and business owners to consider sponsoring the 2014 Lions International Peace Poster Contest.

Beaulieu Maré, who coordinates the contest nationally, said the Lions need approximately R20 000 to hold the contest and all donations will be appreciated.

All sponsors will be mentioned at the prize-giving function and poster display, which will be held at Lakeside Mall.

Lions Clubs International started the Peace Poster Contest in 1998, with the intention to create and foster a spirit of understanding amongst people in the world.

Children between the ages of 11 and 13 are eligible to participate and express their feelings about world peace and to share their vision with the world through their posters..

Approximately 35 schools and youth groups from the great Ekhuruleni area take part in the contest each year.

Maré said the contest has long reaching benefits.

“We find that there is a lot of interaction between the learners and the Lions and we are able to provide guidance on life skills, as the young people are able to discuss issues that worry them,” she added.

“We have also had positive feedback from teachers, telling us about increased confidence in children whose posters are recognised.”

Anyone who would like to make a financial contribution to the contest may contact Maré on 082 971 5472.
