Participate in the Cansa Relay for Life

The third annual Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) Relay for Life will be held at Hoërskool Hans Moore, on March 21 and 22.

The Relay For Life is an overnight team event that raises awareness and funds to fight cancer.

During the relay, 10 to 15 members per team must commit to keeping at least one team member walking the track at all times, because cancer never sleeps.

Each team needs to have 15 team members.

Each team member must submit a registration fee of R100 if they are 13 years or older, children between six years and 12 years of age register at R50 each and children under the age of six years and cancer survivors do not pay to participate.

“This year our goal is to encourage the East Rand community to live healthy lives, be proactive with early detection screenings and much more, with at least 250 teams and 250 cancer survivors from the community, and to raise at least R1,5-million in the global fight against cancer,” said Sharon Britz Relay, for Life convener.

On the day there will be entertainment by various local artists, the Relay Recess super heroes, Toktokkie and many more.

Britz added that, during the second annual event in 2013, the East Rand Community came together to celebrate cancer survivorship; remembered those lost to the disease and together 203 teams with over 4 500 participants and 217 cancer survivors fought back against this disease

“Last year the Relay for Life raised almost R1.5 million in the global fight against cancer,” concluded Britz.
