Local gynaecologist’s attempted murder case postponed

A local gynaecologist, accused of critically injuring his wife with a piece of exercise equipment, appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on March 5.

His case has been postponed to April 4 for further investigations.

The 48-year-old doctor is facing attempted murder charges.

Police said The Life Glynnwood Hospital medic used a 2kg dumbbell to hit his wife on the head, while she was taking a shower in their home, early in the morning of January 24.

The doctor then went to the police station to report the matter and to hand himself over.

Police said he arrived at the police station and informed members on duty that he had “killed his wife”.

Benoni Magistrates Court prosecutor Thabiso Mosikili said the case has been postponed for further investigation.
