Pole Physiques Studio Pole dancers’ comments on Guinness world record attempt

On Sunday, February 22, pole dancers from all over the world attempted to break an existing Guinness World Record, for the most people pole dancing simultaneously across the globe and Pole Physiques Studio was one of the dancing studios in South Africa participating in the attempt, in association with the International Pole Sport Federation (IPSF).

Benita Bouwer: “I am humbled and proud to be a part of this initiative, proud to be a poler, proud to represent my country, proud of what our studio has achieved on the international stage and incredibly proud of my students.”

Chantal Hall: “Over 100 studios from 21 different countries took part in this event. It is mind blowing to think that I was dancing with so many people around the world at the same time. Then after the event seeing people from around the globe posting their photos and videos on Facebook and being a part of their experience as well!”

Carla Vieira: “Two years ago I would never have thought that I would participate in such an event of this scale, so it was an exciting and surreal experience! All of us dancers supported each other, from the choreography to the filming of the event, creating a great sense of unity and achievement, while still having fun!”

Frances MacMahon: “It was uplifting. Not only was it for a good cause but it also made me feel like we were part of a worldwide phenomenon which was a new experience”

Franchesca Botha “This was an exciting and powerful experience for me, but more than that, as the minutes passed I felt such a sense of unity. I pictured the dancers all over the world taking the time and effort to be a part of this, and it made me feel proud and grateful.”

Lance Hastie and Melissa Steenekamp: “It is always a honour and a privilege to be involved in something bigger than yourself. Just the mere thought that hundreds maybe thousands of other polers are out there doing what you’re doing at that exact time gives us “goosies”! Apart from the world record attempt… to us it speaks of unity… and where there is unity there is also strength… which gives us a voice! John Farnam said it best in his lyrics…’You’re the voice try and understand it, make a noise and make it clear…we’re not gonna sit in silence we’re not going to live in fear’ So let’s use our voice to make a difference!”

Peta Houston-McMillan: “Despite the required dance for the World Record Breaking attempt being fairly simple, it required a lot of practice and effort (and pole burns and blisters for most!) for all of us to dance in sync. On the day I experienced an amazing sense of camaraderie with my fellow-participants as we danced our way towards raising funds for Cansa, raising awareness about pole dancing and improving the reputation of the sport. For me the privilege of participating in this world record breaking attempt and charity event was an amazing and uplifting experience.”
