Rotary Van Ryn celebrate Irish-style

The Rotary Club of Benoni Van Ryn had the luck of the Irish in arranging a successful International evening, on Thursday, February 27.

This year the club decided on an Irish theme for the annual event, that celebrated the 109th anniversary of Rotary International.

Rotary International was honoured, after which the formalities were followed by some light-hearted Irish fun and fellowship.

Guests were entertained with Irish dances by students from the Ramsay School of Irish Dance, and Neil Murray, who was appointed master of ceremonies, had guests laughing at a few Irish jokes.

Two Irish paintings by Rotarian Sheilah Murray were also on display.

Rotarian Allan Barrable toasted Rotary clubs globally, bringing hope to those who live in darkness.

“As a charity, Rotary goes the extra mile to help those in need,” he said.

The theme, “Rotary in Ireland” was acknowledged, having 2100 Rotarians and 75 clubs in total nation-wide.

Barrable praised the culture and pride of the country.

“…and you cannot help but enjoy their sense of humour,” he added.
