Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital

A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital, in a critical condition, following an accident in the Benoni CBD.

The incident occurred on the corner of Turvey Street and Woburn Avenue, shortly after 4pm, on Tuesday, February 11.

Bystanders told paramedics the motorcyclist, who is in his 30s, collided with a light motor vehicle.

“The ER24 paramedics assessed the man and found that he had suffered a severe head injury, along with suspected multiple broken bones, and was in a critical condition,” said ER24 JHB East spokesperson Glen Orritt.

“They started treating him and summoned assistance from ER24’s medical helicopter.

“The man was placed on a manual ventilator and airlifted to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for further care.”

The driver of the motor vehicle was not injured.

Local authorities were on scene to investigate the collision.
