Ormandy still waiting for matric results

While most 2013 matriculants are settling into res, Benoni resident Taygen Ormandy is still waiting for his matric results.

After completing matric in 2012, Ormandy attended Damelin’s Braamfontein campus last year, to add maths and science his matric results.

He did Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12 mathematics and science in one year.

“Instead of him receiving his results on January 7, we were told that his continuous assessment (cass) marks had not been submitted and therefore he could not receive his results.

“He had submitted all his work, so it is not his fault, it’s a mistake on the school’s part,” said Karen Ormandy, Taygen’s mother.

She added that he has now lost his place at university and has to reapply again to study engineering.

“We are aware of the problem and currently all the Cass marks have been sent to Damelin’s head office, in Cape Town.

“We, unfortunately, do not know when this matter will be resolved,” said Nkateko Ngubeni, of Damelin student services.

She added that it’s not only the Braamfontein campus that is experiencing this problem, but all the campuses

“In all cases of late submission of cass marks, the marks are captured and moderated, and the learners are given their results once this process is concluded,” said Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane. Sekhonyane added that the department has previously raised concerns about late submission of Cass marks with the Independent College Group.

“As a proactive measure, to deal with this challenge, we’ve agreed to hold quarterly meetings to monitor progress on this issue,” she concluded.
