Neknomination participants at risk

Social media has a new craze.

Neknominations, an online drinking game believed to have originated in Australia, has, for the past few weeks, been trending on social media.

The game involves people drinking while being recorded, and then passing on the nomination to friends.

The person receiving the nomination then has to trump the previous nomination.

A local doctor has condemned the recent social media craze of neknominations, saying excessive alcohol consumption could result in people going into an alcoholic coma, which may lead to death.

Dr Shaun Clifford, specialist surgeon at The Life Glynnwood Hospital, said people metabolise alcohol at different rates and people who consume alcoholic drinks in quick succession reach their alcohol peak faster.

He added that people are at risk of asphyxiating on their own vomit if they land up in a coma.

Not all negative?

According to IOL, a man was recently nominated to donate a sandwich to someone less fortunate.

The nominee, Brent Lindeque, posted a video where he donated a cool drink, chocolate and a sandwich, to a beggar.
