Lions recycling project a success

Lakeside Mall and the Benoni Van Rhyn Lions Club hosted their Recycling for Sight event, during which people were urged to drop off their old and/or broken electronic and electrical items at the mall’s recycling centre, from January 6 to 19.

It was recently confirmed that, altogether, 3.4 tons of electronic items were disposed by the public to be recycled.

Lions member Beaulieu Maré said they are ecstatic about the excellent response to the collection.

Funds raised will go toward cataract surgeries in South Africa.

The Lions thanked the Lakeside Mall and especially Lizzy (Elizabeth Matlala), who assisted members of the public at the mall’s recycling stand.

Beaulieu added that the importance of the project lies mainly in creating awareness and said every little bit counts.

The Lions will host the project again, in the near future.

Paper, plastic and cardboard can still be recycled at the stand, at Entrance Five.
