Pretoria Road Hospice is not bogus

The Hospice FWC Charity Shop, at 516 Pretoria Road, on the premises of Global Pets, is not a bogus operation.

The City Times published a letter in the January 24 edition, in which it was suspected by the letter’s author that the shop was bogus.

In the letter, the City Times included comment from Hospice East Rand fund-raising and public relations manager Gerda Baverstock, in answer to our inquiries about the shop.

Baverstock stated that the shop is not connected with the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa.

The shop is, in fact, owned by Frieda Smith and received permission from Community Welfare, Hospice and Development Centre (FWC) fundraiser Robert Miller to start operating, in a letter dated November 10, 2013.

The FWC is the beneficiary of the shop.

The City Times regrets the omission in the letter published on January 24.
