Support the Book Bash

The Friends of the Library are starting this year with a bang.

They will hold a Book Bash on Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1, in the Benoni Library’s main foyer.

On the Friday, the book sale will run from 9am till 4pm, and on the Saturday, from 8.30am till noon.

Fiction, non-fiction and children’s books will all be available on both days.

The friends sell only books in good condition, and at the upcoming sale they will have a R5 table with books that are a little older, or duplicates.

“For 10 years, Friends of the Benoni Library have been supporting the library and have put thousands of books on the shelves,” said Ann Smith, chairwoman of the group.

“All donated books are first vetted by the librarian, to see if they have a place in the library, and the excess is sold at our popular book bashes.”

Smith added that the group needs the public’s support, as the number of people at the sales has been diminishing, and that means fewer books for the library and less to give to charities and to schools.

“Please come, and bring a friend to browse with you,” she concluded.

For book collections, or to drop off, contact Smith on 011 425 4102, or Sandra Castille on 011 849 6122.
