Police exhume murder victim’s body

The body of a murdered woman was unearthed from a shallow grave on a plot in Fairleads on Monday.

Members of the Victim Identification Centre (VIC) exhumed the body of Zimbabwean national Evelyn Nyamasoka (38) on Monday afternoon – weeks after she was murdered.

The woman was reported missing by her employer, who does not want to be named, or his address identified, after she failed to arrive at family in Thokoza.

This is after he gave her permission to leave to Thokoza on Monday, January 10, at 4pm.

Police received a tip off of the murder from a man who does part-time work at the property.

The informant claims the two suspects bragged of the murder to him while they were drunk.

Police, with the help of the Community Police Forum (CPF), arrested the two suspects, aged 29 and 45, on Monday morning, shortly after they arrived at work at the Fairleads home.

The accomplices have been working at the property for four and 13 years, each.

Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer Tryna Maritz said the domestic worker was murdered on the plot on January 10.

Maritz said blood was found behind a cabinet in the lapa at the back of the house.

The informant told police the woman was stabbed with a kitchen knife multiple-times and strangled.

The two suspects allegedly hid the body for five days underneath rubble at the side of the house.

The men then allegedly moved the corpse and buried it at the back of the house, behind a chicken shed.

The owner of the Fairleads home said he though Nyamasoka had gone to Zimbabwe on Monday, January 13 when she did not pitch for work.

He said he later found her passport and realised she could not have gone away.

Police believe the motive behind the crime was robbery.

The suspects allegedly knew the woman had a stash of money saved up and threatened her to reveal where it was.

The suspects allegedly stole R200 and a cell phone from the victim.

The home owner said the two suspects “hated her” (Nyamasoka).

He said the eldest suspect wanted to move (with his wife) into the room the victim was staying in on the premises, but he refused.

The owner of the property confronted the workers when they were arrested on Monday.

“I cannot tell you how disappointed I am after everything I did for you – all for R200,” the irate man said.

“You deserve everything you get.”

The man said his wife and daughter (18) are taking strain after the murder.

He said the domestic worker would call him “daddy” and his wife “mommy”.

At first there was suspicion that the domestic worker was killed in the house.

The family said they are relieved the murder had not taken place in the bar, as they spent a lot of time in that part of the house.

Maritz said the men are facing charges of murder and robbery without a weapon.

The man who tipped police off is not believed to be involved in the crime.

The suspects are expected in court soon.
