Drug muled; win tickets to hear the story

The Northfield Methodist Church is hosting Vanessa Goosen on Friday, February 7, at 6.30pm.

Goosen has offered to tell her story to raise money for the Northfield Pastoral Care Centre, where people from all over Benoni are also able to find hope, courage and faith.

Goosen’s tale is one of the many drug mule stories that have made headlines across the world.

She had a bright future ahead of her, having been a semi-finalist in the Miss South Africa pageant, but it all came to a halt when she was arrested in Bangkok, in Thailand, for drug trafficking, after her boyfriend’s friend framed her.

Pregnant and afraid, she was sentenced to death.

Although her sentence was commuted to life, she experienced severe depression in confinement and endured harsh treatment at the hands of the Thai justice system.

Despite all of this, central to her time in jail was her faith journey and her reliance on God, and how He carried her through the ordeal.

Fortunately, Goosen is now living freely back home in South Africa.

Re-united with her family, her struggle is not yet over – she has faced further personal tragedies and challenges.

Forced to confront the emotional and physical scars of her imprisonment, she consciously embraces every day and its opportunities, however small.

Her courage, deep sensitivity and personal experience of despair and devastating tragedy have enabled her healing process to touch others’ lives.

Today, through her Inspirational talks, Goosen shares her story of defeat, hope and triumph.

She has now written a best seller “Drug Muled”.

Food and refreshments will be on sale before the event and the church is also offering fun activities with supervision for children to be kept busy during the event.

The Northfield Methodist Church will be giving away two copies of her book (valued at R180 each) together with two double tickets (valued at R50 each) to the event.
