SAPS clamp down

A total of 16 people were arrested between January 17 and 18, as part of a Crystal Park SAPS operation.

In total, 14 people were arrested for being drunk in public and one person for drunken driving, and another for being in possession of dagga, between 6pm and 2am, on the two days.

Nine shebeens were closed, 18 knives were confiscated, 136 DVDs were seized and six traffic fines were issued.

The members also concentrated on stop-and-search operations, searching 408 people and 36 vehicles.

Tryna Maritz, Crystal Park SAPS media liaison officer, said the station’s commander, Lieut-Col Belinda Motaung, assured the continuation of such operations.

“These operations will continue until all illegal liquor outlets are closed,” she said.

“Members from Crystal Park SAPS have a zero tolerance approach when it comes to doing their job, and will continue to do their part to curb all illegal activities.”
