Actonville police crime operation yield results

The Actonville police's weekend crime prevention operation, that ran from Friday, January 17, to January 20, yielded positive results.

Police spokesman Capt Mack Mngomezulu said the operation was aimed at closing down illegal shebeens and to prevent drug trafficking and the use of drugs.

“From Friday, 12 illegal taverns were shut down and 13 suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs,” said Mngomezulu.

He added that a total of 40 vehicles and over 50 people were stopped and searched.

Mngomezulu said the presence of police and community patrollers play an important role in preventing crime, especially business robberies that were troubling the station in the beginning of the festive season.

“The patrollers are also helping to patrol the business area all the time.”
