Unhygienic toilets moved

The 500 faeces-infested portable toilets that were offloaded at the corner of Railway Avenue and Turvey Street, on January 7 and 8, are currently being moved to Hodgson Road, Benoni Agricultural Holdings.

“We are currently loading the dirtiest toilets first and will then move the rest,” said Hendrik Keulder, of the Red Ants Security Services.

“This is a residential area, how could they offload these stinking toilets here in the first place?”

“I could barely breathe last night with the stench that filled my house from these toilets,” said an angry resident.

“It is not the first time they have done this, but it is definitely the worst.”

“The toilets are usually offloaded onto the property of the abandoned house,” said another angry resident.

The residents added that they usually have to deal with squatters who squat in that area, and now they have more problems on their hands.

Mary Goby, councillor for ward 28, said: “The toilets were taken from Mayfield informal settlement, Daveyton, after a riot erupted in the area.

“The residents of the informal settlement demanded flushing toilets and threatened to burn the portable toilets.”

She added that the toilets are being moved to Hodgson Road.
