Don’t suffer in silence

LifeLine Ekurhuleni counselling manager and trauma counsellor Taryn Yeoman was selected as one of the Vodacom Change the World volunteers for 2013/2014.

Vodacom Change the World is a programme in which skilled volunteers are funded by Vodacom to work in a non-profit organisation for a year.

Yeoman recently launched the “Talk” campaign, which that will encourage people to seek help and talk to someone about their problems.

She aims to raise awareness and encourage the community of Benoni to not suffer in silence, but to talk to someone about what is bothering them.

“I chose the talk campaign because, from my experience, I have noticed that a lot of people do not want to talk, and I hope that, with this campaign, I can show them that it is okay,” said Yeoman.

She added that the campaign is aimed at people of different ages and sexes.

“They can talk to us about anything, from being depressed or being HIV-positive, to being abused,” she said.
