Premier candidate addresses community

The DA will look to create hundreds of thousands of entrepreneurs in Gauteng if it wins the province in the 2014 national elections.

“My dream is for more and more people to find employment,” said Chas Everitt Boksburg real estate agent, Lesley Pountain

“This is how we are going to do it: we are going to make sure more and more businesses can thrive here in Gauteng.

“We have to deliver jobs and the way we do this is to make sure we start as many small businesses as possible.”

Maimane addressed a public meeting in the Benoni City Hall on November 5.

He said he wants as many South Africans as possible to own a stake of the economy and that the government must stand behind small businesses and provide them with capital to assist them to grow and prosper.

“At the end of the day, if we don’t have a small business culture, this country is doomed for creating spaces where big business absorbs labour, only to retrench it later,” he said.

He also said the country’s education system has to be equal for all, regardless of the location of the schools.

“We cant have an education system that holds our young people back; we must have an education system that frees up young people so they can can be what they want to be,” said Maimane.

The premier candidate also re-iterated the DA’s plans to fight e-tolling if it wins the provincial vote.
