Tributes pour in after shootout

Tributes and condemnation have poured in following the news of the death of two men at the luxury Ebotse Golf and Country Estate, in Rynfield, early last night.

Over 50 comments have been posted on the developing news story.

Many people have condemned the shooting, with others vowing to take revenge for the act.

‘‘What is happening to our world?’’ one reader asked.

‘‘Things are just getting worse and there is no solution.

‘‘Things can’t go on like this.

‘‘No one is safe anymore, anywhere.

‘‘This family has to carry this loss and this with Christmas around the corner.

‘‘I agree; lock him up for ever.’’

Another reader said: ‘‘Absolutely heart broken.’’

‘‘ I pray the redeeming love and mercy of the cross over the lives of all involved.

‘‘God’s peace be upon all, let your light shine in the darkness, Lord.

‘‘In Jesus’s name.’’

Another comment read: ‘‘Good luck to the family and loved ones through this difficult time.’’

Ebotse expressed sympathy to the affected families.

‘‘We obviously find it tragic,’’ said Vincent Cockbain, vice-chairman of the Ebotse Home-owners Association.

‘‘You would not that want to happen to anyone, but, unfortunately, it has happened.

‘‘We (Ebotse) will give as much support to the family and respect their privacy.’’

Cockbain did not want to divulge details of the incident, but said the estate’s security was not breeched.

The Gauteng Police’s provincial spokesperson, Capt Julia Claassen, said earlier this morning that the shootout was a result of an alleged domestic dispute.

A man is believed to have shot dead his daughter’s boyfriend and the boyfriend’s father (46).

The 47-year-old suspect is facing two counts of murder.

Claassen said a forensic team are still gathering evidence at the scene.

Police are expected to release further details of the incident later today.
