Don’t miss Aladdin on stage

Watching a pantomime produced and staged by amateur dramatic society members can easily be shrugged off , but making the effort to watch a show produced by these actors can surprise and surpass your expectations.

This is the case with Protea Stage Productions’ newest production, Aladdin and His Magic Lantern, which is currently on stage in the Benoni Small City Hall.

The pantomime is written and directed by 17-year-old St Dunstan’s College pupil Cameron Lawry.

Although the cast is relatively young, they did a sterling job of acting and the audience were not left searching for better things to do.

The cast boasts some above average actors, such as Aladdin’s mother, Tannie Lilipampilia played by Dirk Jonker, and Aladdin’s aunt, Antie Lolibumblia, played by Michael Brownhill.

The also pulled their weight and showed their worth as up-and-coming actors and actresses.

The pantomime tells the original story of Aladdin, but has plenty of interesting twists and comical scenes.

The comical scenes which accompany the songs and dances have a unique South African flavour, which is gripping and funny enough to keep you wanting more.

Many of the jokes are woven well into the script.

A lot of effort went into the costumes and set, with the actors and actresses doing their part not to disappoint the crowd.

The pantomime will be on stage until November 2, on Fridays and Saturdays at 7.30pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 2.30pm.
