House robber arrested, stolen car recovered

The arm of the law proved to be long, when a man who committed a house robbery, in June, was arrested recently.

The 32-year-old allegedly ransacked a house in Laventel Street, Northmead and, also drove away in a family car.

Good investigation work by Benoni detective WO Pat Khumalo led the police to a house in Crystal Park.

“Investigation led to the member recovering two stolen vehicles at the suspect’s place of residence, in Crystal Park, and one of the vehicles recovered was the one stolen during the house robbery,” said police spokesman Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

During the robbery, the victim was awakened by a torch light being flashed in her eyes.

She got out of bed and tried to run towards the door, but was pushed back by the intruder, who was armed with a firearm, and then covered her with a duvet.

The man ransacked the house and stole property, as well as the vehicle which was used to flee the scene.

“No shots were fired,” said Sekele.

The man appeared in the Benoni Magistrates Court on October 3, and was remanded in police custody.
