Beware of bogus homebuyers

The Benoni SAPS would like to warn Benoni community members to be vigilant of criminals posing as agents or buyers of properties.

This follows a house robbery in Third Avenue, Northmead, on September 19, where two suspects gained entry to the premises after notifying the owner that they were sent to view the house by an estate agent, as the house was for sale.

‘‘The owner allowed the two robbers into the house and they tied her hands and legs with cables and started to ransack the house,’’ said Benoni SAPS media liaison officer Lieut Nomsa Sekele.

‘‘Electrical appliances, jewellery and food from the fridge were taken.

‘‘After the robbers left, the complainant managed to untie herself and immediately informed the police of the incident.’’

Sekele said criminals are out in full force at the end of the year, and urged people to be alert, as they are preying on easy targets.
