Khoza was tried in the Delmas High Court on seven charges emanating from a business robbery in Daveyton in December 2008.
Khoza and two accomplices demanded cash before he shot two Ethiopian men, one of whom died at the scene.
“They then took cash, cigarettes, airtime and a cellphone,” said police spokesman Alfred Nakana.
They were arrested three days later and the firearm used in the shooting was recovered.
It was discovered that Khoza had stolen the firearm during a house robbery in Benoni in 2008.
His sentence is as follows:
- Murder – life imprisonment
- Robbery with aggravating circumstances – 15 years
- Attempted murder -10 years
- Possession of unlicensed firearm -15 years
- Possession of stolen property – three years imprisonment
- Possession of unlicensed ammunition – three years imprisonment to run concurrently with count two
- Possession of ammunition – five years imprisonment to run concurrently with count four.
His accomplices were acquitted during the course of the trial.
Nakana said the police appreciate the sentence and hope it will send a clear message to other thugs that crime does not pay.
