Mbeya disappeared after allegedly hacking the mother of his child to death, using an unknown weapon, in December 2012, following an argument.
Police found the victim’s body in a pool of blood, with multiple injuries.
“His neighbours in Emaphupheni were awakened by a loud scream coming from the house and, when they went to investigate, the suspect fled the scene,” said police spokesman Const Timothy Masilela.
The motive for the killing is not known.
The suspect is believed to be moving between Soweto and Maputo.
