Catholic Women’s League turns 80

The Catholic Women’s League (CWL) Diocese of Johannesburg recently celebrated its 80th anniversary.

As part of its anniversary project, the league adopted the Mamohau Care Centre,in Soweto.

As part of the celebrations, a fete will be held on September 30, at the De La Salle Holy Cross College, in Victory Park, from 9am to 3pm.

Members of the CWL support their churches by assisting with funeral teas and catering for events.
They raise money and give their time to organisations such as Hospice, LifeLine, soup kitchens, informal settlements and many more deserving charities.

The total membership of the Diocesan Council of Johannesburg is 1 684, 396 of whom are from the East Rand Regional Council.

The league was initially established by Margaret Fletcher, in England, and the first branch in South Africa was founded in Cape Town, in 1930.

All the members daily attempt to carry out the mind of the Second Vatican Council, with charity, work and loyalty.
