St Dunstan’s College welcomes two new additions to the school

St Dunstan’s College recently had the opportunity to welcome two new additions to the school, in the form of beautiful juvenile barn owls.

The Generation Earth Council of St Dunstan’s College had the opportunity to welcome two new additions to the school, in the form of beautiful juvenile barn owls.

The school is taking part in a ground-breaking owl release programme, run by Ecosolutions, an organisation committed to educating people about the importance of, amongst other things, owls, in the environment, as a natural pest control.

The owls will be kept in a special pen on the premises for a period of three to four weeks, after which they will be released.

The hope is that they will establish themselves in the existing owl box installed last year, and become a permanent fixture at the school.

The school is appealing to residents living within a 10km radius of the school to refrain from using poisons such as Rattex, as the owls will then run the risk of secondary poisoning.

According to the school, this is an incredible opportunity for all the pupils to learn more about these wonderful creatures and to be able to see them first hand.

It is hoped that the owl release programme will become an annual event.
