Mall taking all necessary precautions for shoppers

At this point in time, the majority of the stores are trading with the exception of the service tenants and jewellers, as well as small retailers who don’t sell winter products.

Benoni’s largest mall, Lakeside Mall, is operating under level four lockdown restrictions and shoppers can visit any of the open stores during trading hours, as long as they adhere to the safety and hygiene protocols in place.

Marketing manager of the mall Precious Ntuli said the mall has taken extra precautions with regard to sanitisation, social distancing and safety on the premises since the national lockdown.

“On the weekend after level five lockdown was announced, ecostatic treatment was completed in all public areas and ablution facilities, as well as high touch-point areas within the mall,” Ntuli said.

“All entrances were equipped with sanitiser stations for the customers to use at their discretion.

“The moment a shopper enters, they are greeted by a security guard who will sanitise their hands with an alcohol-based sanitiser.”

She added that a “no mask no entry” policy, in accordance with government regulations, is enforced and that there are markings on their floors to indicate adequate social distancing stand points in high traffic and general queuing areas.

“Children are permitted in the centre with masks on; however, masks are not required for children under the age of two.

“Shoppers are encouraged to use the foot operated hand sanitising stations installed in strategic areas around the mall.”

Limited numbers of shoppers are allowed in the mall at any given time and the stores in turn also limit the number of customers inside their stores.

Social distancing and limited numbers are managed in mall common areas and high-traffic areas such as queues, lifts and on escalators.

Ntuli assured shoppers that the highest cleaning protocols are followed in all common areas and high-touch points in the centre.

Deep cleaning is done every day once the mall is closed to the public.

Centre access and information:

• To access the mall, shoppers may use Tom Jones, Voortrekker and Rothsay streets as points of entrance and exit.

• All mall entrances are open

• All lifts and bathrooms on lower levels are open

• Upper-deck extension, lower ground Checkers and parking 5 are open. Parking is free.

Security in the centre is still a core focus and remains in place and the centre management office is operationally resourced.
