Drive habit change this Global Handwashing Day

Spread the word of hygiene with Dettol South Africa today (15 October) and help prevent the spread of germs that can lead to illness.

In its efforts to promote and advocate good hand health habits, Dettol SA is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), at any given time, more than half of the developing world’s population is suffering from one or more of the main diseases associated with unsafe water, poor sanitation and hygiene. The impacts of inadequate hand hygiene include millions of child deaths and a significant lag on improving children’s health and life prospects.

Globalhandwashing.org recently stated that diarrhoea and pneumonia are leading causes of deaths in children under the age of five. Handwashing with soap is among the most effective and inexpensive ways to prevent these diseases. This simple behaviour can save lives, cutting diarrhoea by almost half and acute respiratory infections by nearly a quarter. Handwashing, with soap, impacts not just health and nutrition, but also education, economics, and equity.

This year to make an impact, Dettol SA and the Pick n Pay School Club are teaming up to teach kids and educators about the importance of hand hygiene. They’ll be visiting schools across the country with the goal of achieving 1 million hand washes by Global Handwashing Day on 15 October.

So spread the word of hygiene and wash your hands with Dettol soap!
