Former Benonian inducted into the Packaging and Processing Hall of Fame

The 75-year-old has dedicated his life to packaging in Africa.

Former Benonian Keith Pearson was inducted into the Packaging and Processing Hall of Fame recently in Chicago, United States.

The 75-year-old has dedicated his life to packaging in Africa and served more than 15 years in the leadership of the World Packaging Organisation.

The former Benoni Small Farm resident was elected president of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) in 2006, (a global packaging organisation) for six years before becoming a general secretary of the WPO for another couple of years.

Institute of Packaging SA (IPSA) awarded him with an honorary membership, while he also earned a Packaging Achiever Award from the Packaging Council of South Africa.

His passion is educating professionals and students about the packaging function’s significance in society, particularly when it comes to reducing or eliminating food and packaging waste in a circular economy and addressing starvation.

Pearson lived in Benoni for many years, but in 2016 he moved to Margate when he married Di Halstead.
