New council to act as intermediary between metro and local business

Chris van Biljon was recently voted onto the newly created Ekurhuleni Business Council.

He is one of ten people to make up the new representative body.

Van Biljon said the ten members of the council were distilled from 40 nominees at a meeting at Emperors Palace recently.

He said the Ekurhuleni metro chose the final representatives.

“We are now the highest authority of business in Ekurhuleni,” he said.

“Any initiatives from the local business can now go straight to the metro, through this council.

“This is a direct intermediate body between the city’s businesses and the metro.”

Van Biljon said one of the first points on the council’s agenda will be to address informal settlements and have more RDP houses built.

The Aerotropolis project will also feature highly on their list of goals.

Van Biljon, who is the CEO of the Ekurhuleni Business Initiative (EBI), said he will represent all the member companies in the EBI, giving many local businesses a collective voice in the metro.

He encouraged businesses to approach him and the council with ideas, queries or grievances about business in Ekurhuleni.

The council had not met at the time of publishing, and thus have no central contact details as yet.
