The main beneficiary of the debutante fund-raising activities, which take place throughout the year, is San Michele, a home for the mentally disabled in Brakpan.

Lavender was the theme of the Mother’s Day tea and each debutante was involved in stylishly decorating a table for their family members and provided an array of treats.

The guest speaker was Mari Botha, the managing director of Carpe Diem drama school, who presented an inspiring talk entitled “Gourmet Garden”.

Botha encouraged the all-female audience to practise CARE, which she explained stands for Change, Affirm, Rearrange, Eliminate.

“These are four important steps to self-care. Women are often so busy fulfilling all their roles that they forget about themselves.

“The truth is, we can’t take care of anyone else if we don’t take care of ourselves first,” Botha said.

“By bringing about positive change in either our environment or our attitude, by practising positive affirmations for ourselves, rearranging small things in our lifestyle and routine, and by eliminating negative or harmful thoughts, you can bring calm and joy into your life.”

The morning concluded with a lucky draw as the guests continued to enjoy each other’s company over pots of tea and decadent eats.
