RFKC teaches knitting skills to neglected teenage girls

Teenage girls from abusive, neglectful and at-risk backgrounds were taught the basics of knitting at Country Life Retirement Village on July 5.

The workshop was organised by Reaching Families, Kids, Communities (RFKC), a non-profit organisation which focuses on mentoring children between nine and 17 years old.

The girls were taken under the wing by residents of the estate and the volunteers.

“We run a camp programme for the kids and teach them practical skills like knitting so they can use these skills to generate an income for themselves as some of them didn’t even finish primary school,” said Vanessa Carelse, director of the organisation.

The knitting needles and wool was donated by ABC Knitting.
